Unidata McIDAS-X - v2008 Known Bugs/Deficiencies

The following lists the known deficiencies or items scheduled for revision in the Unidata McIDAS-X distribution.

As bugs are uncovered, they will be added to this list. As bugs are fixed and routines get updated, code updates will be made available, announced in Unidata McIDAS-X Version 2008 Addenda, and the corresponding entries in the list below will be deleted.

32-bit vs 64-bit Execution

SSEC recommends that McIDAS-XCD be run on 32-bit versions of Linux or in 32-bit mod on 64-bit Linuxes. Code changes made after the SSEC v2008 release which have been incorporated into Unidata McIDAS v2008 seem to enable XCD to be run on 64-bit systems with no problems, but testing is ongoing.

mcimage Under KDE

Even though operation of McIDAS-X has improved in recent Linux KDE environments, it has been observed that there is a memory leak that will render the workstation unresponsive if McIDAS is left running for several days. For this reason, we do not recommend the use of the KDE environment.

SAVE option for PTCON macros

Non-simple grids (e.g., THA, THAE, ABV, VOR, etc.) created from objective analysis of observed data when saved to a GRID file do not include the fields DAY, level, or units.

Unidata Tcl/Tk GUI

The Unidata 2008 Tcl/Tk MCGUI interface continues to evolve. Incremental upgrades to its functionality will be released in package Addenda throughout the year. Availability of these updates will be announced to the mcidas-x@unidata.ucar.edu email list which McIDAS-X users should subscribe to.
