Unidata McIDAS-X - Program Sunset

NOTE: The contents of this document are subject to change without notice.

Command support termination is generally referred to as a sunset. Commands are sunset for a variety of reasons:

• the command is obsolete
• the functionality of the command is provided by newer, more capable command(s)
• the cost of supporting the command becomes prohibitive

• if possible, we announce the sunset of a command approximately one year before the sunset
• after a command is declared to be sunset, we continue to include it in our distribution and create its executable during the build process for one new release. We will not, however, guarantee the command's functionality since we will not be testing the command.
• we include the program source in our distribution for the second release past the sunset, but will not create its executable during the build process

Commands Removed from the Current Distribution

Commands removed from Unidata McIDAS-X, the McIDAS-X release they were removed from, and their replacements are listed below.

NOTE: Sources for sunsetted commands is still included in the 2008 release. Executables for these commands can still be built, but their use is strongly discouraged; users should move away from their use as fast as possible.

Commands to be Removed in a Future Release

Commands scheduled for removal and their suggested replacements are listed below. The replacements are listed so you will know which commands to start using before the next upgrade is distributed. If you feel the replacement does not meet your needs, please contact Unidata McIDAS Support <support-mcidas@unidata.ucar.edu>.

Required Action:

1. Start using the replacment commands in your every day use of McIDAS and substitute the replacements for the commands that are being removed in your macros, BATCH files, FKey Menus, McBASI programs and scheduler entries.
